The Town of Andrews seeks an experienced, innovative, and community-focused law enforcement executive, preferably with a minimum of 10 years of law enforcement experience and 3-5 years of administrative and command work. 

Located in a serene valley in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains of western North Carolina, Andrews has much to offer residents and visitors alike. With a year-round population of only 1,800 across 1.7 sq miles, as a tourism destination, the population swells during the spring and summer months of the year.

Candidates must have current certification as a municipal or local government law enforcement officer by their respective state or with no more than a three-year break in full-time sworn service.

Note: N.C. law does not recognize nor have a reciprocal relationship with federal law enforcement certification.

A valid N.C. driver’s license Is required or the ability to obtain a valid N.C. driver’s license within 60 days of relocating to N.C. 

Salary and Benefits 

The salary range for the chief of police is negotiable.

Job Description

Law enforcement executives are invited to join the fast-paced, unique community of Andrews, N.C., as the next chief of police. The chief manages the department’s $782,800 budget and leads a team of nearly 7 employees with integrity, accountability, and humility. 

The Town of Andrews seeks a law enforcement leader, preferably with a minimum of 10 years of law enforcement experience and 3-5 years of administrative and command work. Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in law enforcement, criminal justice, public administration, business, or related field and considerable experience of a progressively responsible nature in law enforcement management is preferred, but an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Executive law enforcement training is highly preferred. Candidates must have current certification as a municipal or local government law enforcement officer by their respective state or with no more than a three-year break in full-time sworn service at time of appointment. A valid N.C. driver’s license is required or the ability to obtain a valid N.C. driver’s license within 60 days of relocating to N.C. 

The salary range for the chief of police is negotiable. The Town of Andrews provides a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life and short-term disability insurance, paid time off, participation in the NC Local Government Employees Retirement System, and N.C. 401(k).

There is no residency requirement but after-hours response to emergencies is expected for the role.
